Amsterdam Tours: Enjoying Dutch Hospitality
Amsterdam is not merely a city of liberalism and drugs. The Netherlands has a huge number of museums, and there are lots of monuments, museums, and markets to be enjoyed in Amsterdam and the surrounding area. A short tram ride to the outer parts of the city will take you to a whole new world, with narrow streets, cyclists, and great sights.
Things to See in Amsterdam
Amsterdam is one of the few places in the world where the atmosphere of the city is as interesting as any one attraction. It is true that marijuana and hashish can be legally purchased in Amsterdam, and the Red Light District is a popular place for many young men to visit. But there is much more to Amsterdam than sex and drugs. There are lots of other things that you can enjoy.
Amsterdam has a lot more to offer than just drugs and prostitutes. The city has some spectacular architecture, with buildings from a variety of time periods. A trip around the city on a canal boat will present you with lots of different views, and a visit to the museums will give you a fascinating insight in to the history of the Netherlands.
Amsterdam has some wonderful museums and libraries, including the Rijksmuseum, the Anne Frank Museum, and the Van Gogh Museum – whether you are interested in art or warfare, there is something for you in the city.
Dining in Amsterdam
As you stroll around the city you will find that there are restaurants to suit all tastes, from quick snacks at international chains of fast food restaurants, to fine dining and local cuisine. About minute's walk down the Damrak, the street facing Central Station, for example, there are some neon lights saying “pizza”.
If you delve further into the city, you can find the Damstraat, the street on Dam Square, also peppered with eateries. Further down again towards Leidseplen, the Leidsekruisstraat and Leidsetraat have their good share of restaurants too. It is necessary to note however that the streets mentioned earlier are located in some of the city’s most touristy areas. So, if you wish to steer clear of such commercial centers, you have the chance to visit the Jordaan as some of the city’s coolest restaurants are found there.
If you prefer to dine on a budget, there are some small fast food outlets where you can purchase staples such as pizza, chips, or kebabs, and the prices are quite reasonable. The Dutch seem to prefer generous servings of sauces, however, so be careful when asking for ketchup or mayonnaise!
