The Great Victorian Bike Ride: Life's "MUST-DO" Adventure

All roads should lead to Australia's premier bike ride event for this year!  Cyclists can see the best of  eastern Victoria from November 24 to December 2 by planning to participate in the grand bike tour event. For those of you who may not know, the Great Victorian Bike Ride is simply one of life's must-do adventure.  At least that is the way Bicycle Victoria's ride director, Nikki Tyler looks at it.

And the bike tour is extensive.  It will take in  Phillip Island, historic Walhalla, the eucalypts and giant tree ferns of the Strzelecki Ranges, Wilsons Promontory National Park, Ninety Mile Beach, Gippsland Lakes and Buchan Caves.  Quite a tour indeed.  If this 9 day tour is more than you can handle, there is a 3 day Coastal Explorer Ride from Phillip Island to Wilsons Promontory, that promises to be just as much fun. And the organizers have made sure to provide entertainment as well.  As a climax for the whole bike tour event, singer Kate Ceberano will perform with her band on the last night of the ride.

The nine-day, 544km cycling holiday starts on Phillip Island and has overnight stops planned for Wonthaggi, Foster (two nights), Yinnar, Rawson, Maffra, Paynesville, and Buchan.  Since the orgnizers expect more than 4000 people to participate, you may want to enter by September 14 in order to take advantage of the early online entry price: $640 for adults, $495 for children under 17, $110 for children under 10.

Avoid a late-entry fee of an additional $100, by booking before September 14. Online entries get a $20 discount, but late entries will cost an extra $100. The bike tour is  a fully catered, camping-based holiday which is sure to please outdoor and bicycle  enthusiast.  You can expect extensive support and helpful services such as  luggage transport, a licensed on-site cafe under canvas, first aid, bicycle-repair facilities, entertainment and preparation DVD.   And for those desiring extra comfort, there are optional extras such as "sleep easy" accommodations, local accommodations, ride clothing, physiotherapy, travel insurance and local tours.

So where are you planning to be between November 24 and December 2?  All roads and bike trails lead to Bike Tour event of the year in Eastern Victoria ,  Australia!  See you there!

Tours like this are a really good idea, especially if you are alreay into cycling. I often overindulge while I'm on holiday, so a bike trip round OZ sounds like a good way to avoid coming home several pounds heavier. I've seem some other cycling tours offered by operators, including tours of Bali and China, which is a really nice way to get to see a country in a completely different manner.

I agree that tours such as this one can be very beneficial to those who are prepared for this type of adventure and are up for the challenge. I do have to say though that if you are not an avid bike rider this is probably not the right tour for you.  As a travel agent I have seen so many people decide on tours where they have to rely on things that are not a part of their normal everyday life and against my recommendation they do it anyway and then complain about it.
