The Two Access Points

The Grand Canyon can be accessed from the north and south sides, also referred to as the North Rim and the South Rim.  The majority of visitors prefer the South Rim which has many tourist facilities. It is open 24 hours daily all-year round and is usually full during the summer, winter and long holidays. The North Rim is more peaceful and remote. Its access road is usually closed during cold months because of snow. Both sides are cool in evening and very cold during winter. Below the two rims, temperatures can get very hot which should be approached with caution by hikers. Read more
